At that time Charles of Anjou was the most powerful monarch in Europe. Apart from the fact that he was the sovereign of the two kingdoms of Sicily (which included the entire southern Italy) and Albanian, Carl also served as governor of Ahei, Provence, Forcalquier, Anjou and Maine, suzerain Tunisia and (secondarily) Senator of Rome. The French king comes to his nephew, King of Hungary and the nominal emperor of Constantinople were his zyatyami. Carl had a treaty of alliance with Serbia, Bulgaria, Epirus and the Venetian Republic. Dad was just his puppet. On shipyards Karl in Naples, Provence and a few on the Adriatic coast ports were built 300 ships, and a further 100 vessels were directed to Sicily - this huge fleet would be enough to carry around 27 000 mounted knights and all the necessary equipment to carry out the most ambitious campaign for career of active politics.
